I have a story to tell you …

I just came back from my Trip to Thailand and while I have been to Asia before South Korea to be exact this visit was unique in its own right. Not to worry I will be writing a 3 part blog post on each city that I visited during my stay but before that I would like to share with you the top 5 reasons why I travel .

An open mind – I have found that through my travel experiences to different parts of the world it has allowed me to understand the why behind some questions and the reasons some cultures do what they do. For example in Thailand it’s customary to remove your shoes when entering someone’s home. Where this may seem odd in the western world it’s a sign of respect in Thailand. According to Thai Buddhism the feet are considered the lowest part of your body and the most un holy / dirty part of your body while the head is considered the highest/ most holy part of your body. Which is partially why taking off your shoes when entering someone’s home is respectful.

Food – need I say more exploring different cultures while traveling can be exciting when it’s done through food there is also a certain level of excitement when you try new things like roasted scorpion for the very 1st time.

Appreciation- let’s face it we can easily get wrapped up in our everyday lives and our “1st world problems” like my cell phone isn’t working, I got a speeding ticket or can you believe how long the line was at MacDonald’s. When you travel you realize that the things you complain about other wish for. In third world countries some wish they had a cell phone any cell phone, a car so they can get a ticket or enough money to comfortably walk into a MacDonald’s to stand in that long line to purchase food to eat. When you are able to experience and see how other parts of the world live you get a sense of appreciation of how fortunate you really are.

Relax and disconnect – like most I still work a stressful 9-5 and when I get the opportunity to travel its typically out of the country so that I can truly disconnect from my everyday churn and burn routine. So I take the time to stay off line more and live in the moments that are in front of me. I also make sure to try something new like bathing an Elephant, Riding an ATV through the hills of Oia or napping with a Tiger.

A story to tell- Travel always leaves me with an exciting and interesting story to tell. Like finding out it is forbidden it is not possible is the way a Parisian says the word no. I found this comical during my visits to Paris because I thought it was so odd lol ....why don’t they just say no ?
